The Moon for Humanity

“La Luna para la Humanidad” es un proyecto promovido por el nodo nacional de Malta para el IYA2009, en conmemoración del 400 aniversario del uso del telescopio por Galileo y el 40 aniversario de la llegada del hombre a la Luna. "The Moon for Humanity" is a project promoted by the national node of Malta for the IYA2009, commemorating the 400th anniversary of the use of the telescope by Galileo and the 40th anniversary of the arrival of man on the moon.

La idea es muy sencilla. The idea is simple. Consiste en elaborar una imagen mosaico de la luna a base de fotografías tomadas en diferentes países. Como si fuera un puzzle lunar, cada país participa con la imagen de una determinada pieza, de una determinada sección de la luna llena. Esta sección incluye dos cráteres con nombres de personajes históricos españoles: Alphonsus , en honor de Alfonso X el Sabio, y Azarquiel , en recuerdo el astrónomo andalusí del siglo XI. This section includes two craters with names of historical Spanish: Alphonsus, in honor of Alfonso X the Wise, and Azarquiel, in memory of the eleventh century Andalusian astronomer.

Un  jurado formado por Montserrat Villar (IAA. Coordinadora del AIA-IYA2009), Emilio García (IAA), Teresa Gallego (IAA), Fernando Jáuregui (Planetario de Pamplona) y Blanca Troughton (Sociedad Malagueña de Astronomía) seleccionarán entre las imágenes recibidas la que formará parte del mosaico final. A jury of Montserrat Villar (IAA. AIA-IYA2009 Coordinator), Emilio Garcia (IAA), Teresa Galician (IAA), Fernando Jáuregui (Planetarium of Pamplona) and Blanca Troughton (Sociedad Malagueña de Astronomía) selected from the images received which will form part of the final mosaic. Esta imagen de la Luna se distribuirá internacionalmente como resultado de una colaboración entre muchos países bajo el espíritu de "La Luna para toda la Humanidad". This image of the Moon will be distributed internationally as a result of a collaboration between many countries in the spirit of "The Moon for all mankind." En España se colgará en el portal web del Año Internacional de la Astronomía 2009 indicando la autoría de las imágenes. ¡Importante!: De cara a poder realizar el mosaico es importante que la imagen que enviéis cubra una área algo mayor que la delimitada por el perímetro que aparece en el mapa.
